Poker is a card game played with a small group of players around a table. It is often fast paced and the bets are raised continually until one player has all of the chips or everyone folds. Players can say “raise” to add more money to the betting pool or simply say “call” if they wish to match the last person’s bet.<\/p>\n
A standard pack of 52 cards (or fewer) is used to play poker, plus a few jokers. The cards are ranked from high to low: Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5 and 4. Some games also include wild cards that can take on any suit or rank.<\/p>\n
After the first betting round has completed the dealer will put three cards face up on the table. These are community cards that anyone can use. This is called the flop. Then another betting round takes place. At this point it is important to pay attention to your opponent. Often good hands such as pocket kings or pocket queens can turn into lemons on the flop and you should be cautious.<\/p>\n
After the final betting round is complete the remaining players reveal their cards and the best hand wins the pot. If more than one player has a good hand, there is a showdown in which the players reveal their hidden cards and evaluate their hands. The best hand is one that contains five cards.
