Poker is a card game played with chips. There are many variations of the game, but most involve betting between players in a series of rounds. The objective is to win the pot, the aggregate of all bets made during one hand. This is done by either having the highest ranked hand or making a bet that no other player calls.<\/p>\n
There are several rules governing the game, but it is mostly a matter of strategy and psychology. A player must decide whether to raise or call a bet and how much to raise, based on the expected value of his or her hand. He or she must also consider the likelihood that the other players are bluffing. This requires the player to be able to read other players\u2019 behavior, such as their body language and facial expressions.<\/p>\n
After each player has two hole cards, a round of betting begins. This is usually initiated by 2 mandatory bets called blinds put into the pot by the players to the left of the dealer. Then the dealer deals the first of what may be multiple rounds of cards.<\/p>\n
The earliest known form of Poker was played with 20 cards that were evenly distributed among four players. The players could make a limited number of combinations, such as one pair, two pairs, three of a kind, and a full (or royal) flush.
